Can I Turbocharge My Metabolism
Can I Turbocharge My Metabolism and How Can I Increase My Metabolism? These are the questions every dieter asks. Advances in science and medical knowledge have made it easier than you may think to turbocharge your metabolism – metabolism is the process that takes glucose or stored fat and turns it into energy. We are not proposing that you do anything drastic; there are no major exercise regimes to follow. Just complete our 7-step programme, and watch your rate of weight loss ‘skyrocket’. Can I Turbocharge My Metabolism?
Can I Turbocharge My Metabolism
There are a few tell-tale signs that your metabolism may be sluggish. If you find yourself constantly tired, even after a good night’s sleep, it could be a sign that your metabolism is not working as efficiently as it should be. Weight gain, particularly around the waist, can also be a sign of a slow metabolism. And if you find it difficult to lose weight despite diet and exercise, that could be yet another sign that your metabolism needs a boost. We also have a post, “Do I Have to be Overweight?”
The body is constantly processing energy, whether you’re feeling hungry or full and regardless of if you are awake or asleep. The rate, or speed that your body processes energy is based on your metabolism. When you’re young, your metabolism is faster and you can normally burn through calories quickly. Sadly, however, as you age, your metabolism begins to slow down, which in most cases leads to weight gain and obesity. You may also be interested in our blog post explaining why weight loss gets harder with age.
One of the best ways to lose weight and stay in shape as we get older is to eat a little less and move more, which sounds easy enough until you realise that as your metabolism slows down with age, your muscles slowly deteriorate, meaning you burn even fewer calories. The good news, however, is that there are steps you can take to combat this process. We also have a blog post about how to lose weight when you’re older. How To Increase My Metabolism.
A fast metabolism has many benefits other than being an aid to weight loss. It can also help you build muscle whilst delivering more energy. A fast metabolism also helps your body to absorb nutrients from food better whilst detoxifying itself more efficiently. So, there are many benefits to be gained by giving it a little ‘nudge’ in the right direction. Can I Turbocharge My Metabolism
Kick-starting your metabolism is essential if you are trying to lose weight; a faster metabolism can make weight loss seem almost effortless, ensuring you burn an elevated level of calories and fat. It is well known that if you are trying to build muscle, a faster metabolism can help you to use the protein you eat better to focus on muscle growth. And if you just want more energy, a faster metabolism can help you to feel more energetic and alert. So, if you think you might have a sluggish metabolism, then let us share with you a few things you can do to give it a boost. Let’s start to turbocharge your metabolism…
8 Tips to Get You Started
Number 1. Stress Less. Firstly, as strange as it sounds, you must reduce your level of stress as much as possible. Research has recently been published indicating that stress has a negative impact on your metabolism. It is essential to try to find ways to relax and de-stress on a daily basis. Whilst not directly linked to your metabolism, depression, which can go hand in hand with stress, has been shown to be a significant factor around obesity and being overweight. You can read a dedicated page all about depression and obesity.
Stress also impacts a number of hormonal mechanisms. When the body is under stress, it releases hormones like cortisol and adrenaline as part of the “fight or flight” response. While this response is crucial for survival in acute situations, chronic stress can lead to prolonged elevation of cortisol levels. Elevated cortisol levels have been associated with an increased appetite, particularly for sugary and fatty foods, which can contribute to weight gain.
Additionally, chronic stress may also disrupt sleep patterns, leading to insufficient rest. Sleep plays a vital role in regulating hormones related to hunger and satiety, such as leptin and ghrelin. Disruptions in these hormones can lead to increased cravings for high-calorie foods and a reduced ability to recognize fullness, potentially contributing to weight gain.
Increase Your Consumption of Water
Number 2. Many people are surprised by how effective the consumption of water is on their metabolism. Increasing the amount of water you drink each day will help to spike your level. How? Because any level of dehydration in the body can result in you experiencing a decrease in your metabolic rate. Also, drinking ice-cold water, in fact, as cold as you can get it, will further increase your MR. How? The body has to quickly heat up the water to 37 degrees before passing it as urine; this, of course, requires energy, a bit like heating a pan of water on the stove! This will also help flush out toxins and cleanse your body, which can boost your metabolism.
Also, water plays a crucial role in various metabolic processes, including the breakdown of nutrients and the transportation of molecules within the body. Adequate hydration ensures optimal functioning of the digestive system, aiding in the efficient absorption of nutrients and the elimination of waste. Additionally, drinking water can temporarily boost the body’s calorie-burning capacity, known as resting energy expenditure. By making hydration a priority, you not only support overall health but also harness a natural and accessible means to enhance your metabolism on your weight loss journey.

Number 3. Eat More Fibre. Eating more fibre is another way to boost your metabolic rate. Why? Foods high in fibre have been shown to help you feel fuller longer and reduce the amount of food that you eat overall. In addition, fibre can help you regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of obesity and heart disease whilst also increasing your metabolism.
Also, high-fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, require more energy for digestion, leading to an increase in the thermic effect of food (TEF). This means that the body expends more calories breaking down and processing fiber-rich foods compared to low-fiber counterparts. By incorporating fibre into your diet, you not only support your digestive health but also harness a natural and effective means to rev up your metabolism on the path to achieving sustainable weight loss.
Eggs, excellent protein
Number 4. Don’t Skimp on Protein. Don’t underestimate the importance of incorporating an ample amount of protein into your diet on your weight loss journey. Beyond its role in promoting satiety and keeping hunger at bay, protein plays a crucial role in elevating your metabolic rate. The process of metabolising protein requires more energy compared to carbohydrates or fats, leading to a higher thermic effect of food. This means that your body expends a significant amount of calories in the digestion and absorption of protein, contributing to an overall increase in calorie burning.
Another factor is that protein is indispensable for muscle growth and maintenance. As muscle tissue requires more energy than fat for maintenance, having an adequate protein intake supports the development of lean muscle mass. Prioritising protein in your diet not only aids in achieving and maintaining a feeling of fullness but also acts as a dynamic catalyst in firing up your metabolism, making it an essential component of your weight loss strategy.
Number 5. Some people find that fasting can help them boost their metabolic rate. Fasting involves abstaining from all food for a set period of time, typically 16 hours or more. Research has shown that fasting can help you lose weight and improve your overall health by reducing inflammation and improving your blood sugar levels.
If fasting is not for you, then the opposite approach is worth trying, that is, eating regular smaller meals more often throughout the day. This helps to keep your metabolism going and prevents you from getting too hungry. It is also essential to choose foods that are high in protein and fibre, as detailed above.

In addition to its potential to boost your metabolic rate, intermittent fasting offers other notable benefits for those on a weight loss journey. Fasting can stimulate the body’s production of human growth hormone (HGH), which plays a role in fat metabolism and muscle preservation. This hormonal response supports the breakdown of stored fat for energy, aiding in weight loss while maintaining lean muscle mass.
Furthermore, intermittent fasting has been associated with improved insulin sensitivity, promoting better blood sugar regulation and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. The flexibility of intermittent fasting allows individuals to choose an approach that aligns with their lifestyle, making it a versatile and potentially effective strategy for those seeking not only weight loss but also overall health improvements. As with any dietary approach, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional to ensure it aligns with individual health goals and needs.
Move More
Number 6. Whilst we are not advocating you start a heavy exercise regime, we do advise that you introduce a gentle exercise schedule into your life. Even a twenty-minute walk each day will have an important positive effect on your metabolism. Any exercise will, of course, help to build muscle, which in turn helps to increase your metabolism. While embarking on an intensive exercise regimen may seem daunting, incorporating gentle exercise into your routine can be a game-changer on your weight loss journey.
Advocating for a balanced approach, we recommend introducing a manageable exercise schedule into your daily life. Even a gentle twenty-minute walk each day can significantly impact your metabolism, providing a valuable boost to your weight loss efforts. It’s important to note that any form of exercise contributes to muscle building, a critical factor in elevating your metabolic rate. This doesn’t require intense workouts; even low-impact activities contribute to overall muscle development, creating a positive ripple effect on your metabolism. By embracing gentle exercise, you’re not just fostering a healthier lifestyle but also laying the foundation for sustainable weight loss.
Number 7. A low-carb diet can be an effective way to boost your metabolism. All carbs are broken down into glucose, which is used for energy. When you cut down on carbs, your body has to burn stored fat for energy instead. This process, known as ketosis, can help you lose weight and boost your metabolism.
Beyond its impact on metabolism, adopting a low-carb diet offers a myriad of benefits for weight loss. By restricting carbohydrate intake, you not only prompt your body to shift into ketosis but also experience reduced insulin levels. Lower insulin levels promote fat breakdown and inhibit the storage of new fat, facilitating more effective weight loss. Furthermore, a low-carb approach tends to lead to a reduction in water weight, providing a rapid initial drop on the scale and motivating individuals to continue their weight loss journey.

This type of diet also helps control appetite by stabilizing blood sugar levels and reducing cravings for sugary and processed foods. The combination of enhanced fat burning, reduced water weight, and improved appetite control makes a low-carb diet a powerful tool in achieving sustainable and efficient weight loss.
Cutting carbs is not the only way to turbocharge your metabolism; exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and reducing stress can also help. These lifestyle changes can help you lose weight, increase muscle mass, and improve your overall health.
The Bottom Line
Making these changes can be challenging. However, it is possible to turbocharge your metabolism with the right diet and lifestyle changes. Give yourself ten days to commit to these steps and see how your body reacts; it’s worth the effort. You may be surprised at how much difference it makes. You will find over one hundred useful blog pages on this site, each one will inspire and guide you to your desired weight loss. How To Increase My Metabolism.

Our psychology-focused weight loss programme provides a ‘Psychological Reset’ for those wishing to lose weight. The programme incorporates an updated version of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, TCBT, which is the subject of our bestselling book, published globally by Hay House. Professor Windy Dryden of Goldsmiths University in London endorsed the book, and Professor Philip Zimbardo of Stanford University in the USA wrote the foreword. We also incorporate the latest developments around Neuroplasticity and Neuro-Linguistic Programming along with many other disciplines. One component of our psychology-focused weight loss programme provides a ‘Psychological Reset’. At this statement, ‘Psychological Reset,’ we have observed many people raising their eyebrows; see below.
Let me give you a couple of examples: the programme will allow you to make a number of simple cognitive changes in your thought processes…small changes that deliver ‘massive results’. For example, think for a moment how different your relationship with food and weight loss would be if we re-programmed your subconscious mind to effortlessly replace the word “want” with the word “need”?
The result: imagine you are out having dinner with friends, ordering a burger. Instead of hearing the waiter asking: “Do you ‘want’ fries with that?” without thinking, you hear and automatically process the question as: “Do you ‘need’ fries with that?” Things would be very different, right? You see, at a cognitive level, we process those words differently. Later, maybe the waiter says, do you ‘want’ another glass of wine? You, of course, hear and cognitively process the word stream as do you ‘need’ another glass of wine. You can watch an animated video explaining ‘Want and Need’ and how it works at the bottom of this page.
Another ‘fix’ in the programme relates to just why people eat. So, during the programme, you will be asked when was the last time you ate in response to actual, physical hunger. Most people say: “Thinking about it, I haven’t been physically hungry for years”. And so we ask them: “Do you ever eat when you are bored, stressed, tired, lonely, depressed, sad, to reward yourself, when watching TV, or maybe just to please someone else?” Then, we do another reset, and so it goes on…
