Do I Have to be Overweight

Do I Have To Be Overweight. Gather around, my dear Blog Page readers, and let me tell you a tale about the complex relationship between being overweight and hedonism.   Once upon a time, in a bustling village nestled between rolling hills, there lived a jovial baker named Oliver. Oliver was known far and wide for his delectable pastries and mouth-watering bread.

His shop was always filled with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked breads and cakes, and people from neighbouring villages would often travel long distances just to indulge in his creations. Oliver was a rotund man, with a round belly that matched his infectious laughter.

He was known to savour every moment of life, relishing the taste of his own creations and never passing up an opportunity to enjoy a hearty meal. He was, indeed, a hedonist, someone who found pleasure in the simple joys of life, especially those related to food. As the seasons changed, a stranger arrived in the village. Do I Have To Be Overweight.

This visitor was unlike anyone the villagers had ever seen. Tall, slender, and always adorned in clothing that seemed a little too elegant for the village’s rustic charm, the stranger exuded an air of restraint and discipline. While the villagers were drawn to Oliver’s bakery like moths to a flame, the stranger’s presence seemed almost like a challenge to their indulgent ways.

Rumours began to spread that the stranger was a clever man, wise in the arts of self-control and moderation. The villagers were both intrigued and puzzled. How could it be possible for one to find happiness whilst denying themselves the pleasures that made life so enjoyable? As time passed, the stranger’s presence had an unexpected effect on the villagers.

Do I Have To Be Overweight

Some began to question whether their love for indulgence was truly bringing them lasting happiness. Oliver, though initially sceptical, found himself engaged in long conversations with the wise man. They discussed the balance between pleasure and health, the harmony between savouring flavours and nourishing the body.

Oliver began to realise that while indulgence brought him immediate delight, it was often followed by discomfort and a lack of energy. The stranger shared stories of cultures where food was enjoyed not only for its taste but for its ability to fuel the body and mind. Slowly, Oliver’s perspective shifted, and he began to experiment with creating healthier versions of his beloved bread and cakes.

As time went on, the village underwent a transformation. The air was still filled with the delicious aroma of baking, but the pastries were lighter, the breads more nutritious. The villagers discovered that a balance between indulgence and a little self-control brought them a different kind of joy, one that resonated deeply with their well-being.

All the villagers started to introduce restraint into their lives; they thought more about the consequences of their actions and behaviours around food. In the end, the stranger departed, leaving behind a village that had learned the value of moderation and restraint, they understood the beauty of enjoying life’s pleasures without sacrificing their health.

And Oliver, the once-jovial baker, continued to delight in the art of baking; now, with a newfound understanding of the delicate dance between hedonism and well-being, he no longer had a round belly. So you see, my dear readers, the connection between being overweight and hedonism is a tale of contrasts and discoveries.

Do I Have To Be Overweight

Just like Oliver and the villagers, each person’s journey is unique, and finding the balance that brings lasting happiness is a quest that requires introspection, understanding, and a pinch of wisdom. Many overweight individuals are ‘Present Hedonistic’: “I want it, and I want it now, regardless of the consequences!” At Oxford Therapeutics we have worked with hundreds of people around the world, helping each one to reduce their body weight.

FAQ 1: Is being a Hedonist a bad thing if you want to lose weight.

ANSWER:, Yes it can be. A definition of a Hedonist is someone who tends to think in the Here and Now. They often fail to consider the consequences of the action they are about to take. An example could be a ‘Smoker’ they know that smoking increases the chances of them contracting Lung Cancer, they know it will knock years off their lives, but they want a ‘fag’ and now. FAQ 2: What is the opposite of a Hedonist.

ANSWER: I just asked the question in the office, the answer was ‘A miserable person. The opposite of a hedonist is often referred to as an “ascetic.” That is someone who practices self-discipline, self-denial, and abstains from indulging in sensory pleasures and worldly desires. It is true that in some cases they are boring. They seldom do anything spontaneously. In an ideal world, you want to be somewhere in the middle.

FAQ 3: Can You Change from Being a Hedonist.

ANSWER: Absolutely, a person can change their mindset and behaviors from being a hedonist to pursuing a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle. Personal growth and change are entirely possible with dedication, self-awareness, and a desire for improvement. Remember, change takes time, effort, and patience. It’s important to acknowledge that growth is a journey, and setbacks may occur along the way. The key is to remain committed to your personal development and to celebrate the progress you make, no matter how small. With determination and a clear vision of the life you want to lead, you can indeed transform from a hedonist to someone who embraces a more balanced, purposeful, and fulfilling existence. Below is a selection of weight-loss tips that everyone can start using straight away. And, if you enroll in the My Weigh Less Course, you will learn many more of our helpful tips and techniques about how to achieve successful, permanent weight loss.

Tip No. 1 – Only Eat When You’re Hungry!

This has to be our number one, golden rule, when it comes to achieving successful weight loss. In our experience, most overweight people eat for many different reasons, other than physical hunger. But, if you allow your emotions to control your eating habits, then it is unlikely that you will be able to control your weight as a result. So, before you reach for anything to eat, stop and ask yourself first if you physically NEED to eat, or you just WANT to…

Tip No. 2 – Use a Smaller Plate!

You’ve probably heard this many times before, but it’s a fact that people who use larger plates tend to eat more food than those who eat from smaller plates. No doubt you know about the power of optical illusions. But are you aware of just how much more generous the same size portion of food appears, when presented on a smaller plate, instead of a larger one? Have a look at the image below. It’s known as the Delboeuf optical illusion. If you stick to our mantra, “always go for quality over quantity”, then you will definitely lose weight much more easily.

Tip No. 3 – Drink a Glass or Two of Water Before Your Meal!

Reduce your calorie intake by over 20%, with almost with no effort! Research results, published by Harvard Medical showed that people who drank two large glasses of water, just before eating, on average, consumed around 20% less food compared with when they didn’t drink anything before they ate. This is possibly as a result of the stretching and fullness sensation in the stomach.

Tip No. 4 – Eat Slowly and Mindfully!

A growing number of studies have consistently found a correlation between speed of eating and weight, so it is officially accepted now that faster eaters are definitely more likely to become overweight. Studies have also shown that people are much more likely to eat more when their eating is mindless, as opposed to mindful. So, make meal times an occasion by sitting down at a table, with no distractions. Then eat slowly and savour every mouthful. You will naturally eat less food and also find it easier to lose weight as a result!

Tip No. 5 – Stay Away From Sugar and Highly Processed Foods!

It’s a fact that sugar and highly processed foods have addictive properties! So much so, that many people find that once they start eating these foods, they literally can’t stop. And, of course, if you’re making such poor food choices, this in turn will make it almost impossible for you to lose weight. So, our advice is to choose healthy, unprocessed foods and limit the amount of sugar you consume. As a result, you will have far more control over how much you eat and also how much weight you can lose.

Tip No. 6 – Eat Your Favourite Foods on the Plate First!

You may not be aware of how important this tip is, but the order in which you eat your food can actually have a big impact on how much you consume! It’s quite common for overweight people to “save the best til last” when eating. In other words they only eat their favourite food right at the end. It’s not so surprising then, that they also tend to eat everything on their plate, regardless of how uncomfortably full they feel. Because, of course, they don’t want to miss out on the “best bit”!

top weight loss tips

However, our advice is to eat your favourite things first. Not only will you enjoy it more, but it’s also much easier to stop when you’ve eaten just the right amount and leave the rest on the plate.
