What is a Weight Loss Consultant?
My Online Weight Loss Consultant. Do you need a Diet Specialist? So, would you benefit from having a discussion with a weight loss expert or specialist before you start the next diet? Will it make any difference? Will your weight loss attempts be more successful if you do? Maybe it will ensure that any weight loss is permanent. Or maybe you’re thinking, why bother? What is a weight-loss expert or specialist anyway?
To the people who say, why bother? I always ask: “Just how successful have your weight loss attempts been in the past?” Did you manage to get to your target weight? Has the weight loss you achieved been permanent?”. If their answers are of a positive nature, then no, they don’t need any assistance or guidance. However, if the answer is no, then sorry, but you really should talk to someone before you jump into the next diet.
You have probably read or heard it all before, as we all have, but let’s just confirm it in writing. The average person will undertake 20+ diets in their lifetime; that is a fact. The average lifetime spend will exceed £20,000; wow… that’s a fact. Sadly, 98 per cent of them will end up weighing more than they did when they started. I know many people question the amount, but it has been documented by many independent studies. It includes everything: Gym memberships, meal replacement bars and drinks, plus, of course, weight loss club membership fees.
A statement I read recently made extremely distressing reading. It said that the single biggest predictor of weight gain was a person embarking on a diet…Of course, with a 98 per cent failure rate and most people ending up weighing more than when they started, it is completely believable. Sad But True… You may also like reading our page: “Help with obesity and weight loss”
What is a Weight Loss Consultant
The sad part about these statistics is that 98% of people will fail in their weight loss attempts. So with that amount of hard-earned money at stake along with the years of failed attempts and possibly being depressed about it, then maybe there is a place for the Weight Loss/Diet Specialist. Please also read our page to find out why we are “Fat loss specialists”
But, what exactly is a weight loss specialist? Is it the same as a diet specialist? In reality, they are probably the same person. If you’d like to know the difference between someone labelled as an expert, as opposed to being a specialist, then Google it. The answer is a little vague; it seems to be a grey area. But generally, both are presumed to be experts in their fields.
A specialist is “someone who limits his or her studying or work to a particular area of knowledge and who is an expert in that area.”
So then, who is a specialist in the weight loss arena? Is it the lady who comes to the Church Hall once every two weeks to do the weigh-ins for the local Slimming Club? Or, maybe it’s the Nutritionist who advertises her services in the local paper…What about your doctor? surely he is a specialist you can rely on. We also have a page: “Obesity and fat loss experts”
Doctors not Best
Unfortunately, doctors are often not the best person for you to have a conversation with about weight loss. As an example, doctors in the US receive virtually no training regarding weight management. It seems that 50% of US states don’t require medical professionals to have any training in nutrition, either. A recent study found that doctors spend less than 10 hours training on obesity during their four years of medical school. Doctors in the UK are in a similar situation.
The lack of sufficient medical training and education often results in many medical professionals simply recommending weight-loss surgery or other expensive treatments. However, in many circumstances, this is not the correct solution. One other point regarding visiting your local GP: normally, your appointment will be scheduled to last just ten minutes.
One point on that: the average time required to complete a Forensic Weight Loss questionnaire, the starting point for any series diagnosis, is around four hours; we know we have completed over a thousand of them… For further information, you can read about us and our background.
So, who are we? And why are we described as weight loss specialists? People often use the terms Experts or Specialists to describe us, Martin and Marion Shirran. But why? We are the joint authors of the two bestselling books on the subject, both published globally by leading ‘Mind and Body’ publishers, Hay House, in New York. The books were endorsed by Professor Windy Dryden of Goldsmiths University in London, and the foreword for our second book was written by Professor Zimbardo of Stanford University in San Francisco.
We have also appeared in TV specials on Good Morning America and on the This Morning Show in the UK. Virtually every National Newspaper and popular magazine has featured our work regarding permanent weight loss. Marion is a registered Stake Holder in NICE – National Institute of Care and Clinical Excellence. She is also a part of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity.
Professor Philip Zimbardo invited us to present our unique approach to permanent weight loss at two European University Psychology Conferences. The global media, including Marie Claire, Vogue, Hello and Psychologies, have featured details of our unique treatment.
At our clinic in Spain, we welcomed over a thousand clients, both celebrities and members of the public. Each one had travelled from around the world, each wishing to lose weight permanently. We have accumulated in excess of 15,000 1:1 clinical treatment hours working with clients who wanted to lose weight. Sarah Hart, photo below, appeared on national TV after losing 140 pounds following our programme. You can read her verified case study in the success stories section on this site.
Ask Questions…
So our advice is probably exactly what you would expect. Before you commence on your next weight loss regime, ask some questions and get all the answers before you start. After all, it is your health and your hard-earned money that’s at stake. Ask or find out what experience the principals of the plan actually have. Also, check that you can read legally verified case studies with before and after photos of their past clients. Ask if the treatment has been independently reviewed by others and the media.
What is a Weight Loss Consultant?
Our approach to ensuring our clients achieve permanent weight loss is psychology-focused. No diets or exercise; yes, it is different, but it works. Traditional dieting works for some people, some of the time. Or does it? Yes, diets do work, but only for a while. Why? Because they fail to arrive at the root cause of the problem that a person has with food. They also fail because they are temporary.
Our psychology-focused weight loss programme provides a ‘Psychological Reset’ for those wishing to lose weight. At this statement, ‘Psychological Reset,’ I have observed many people raising their eyebrows. The programme incorporates an updated version of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, TCBT; we also incorporate the latest developments around Neuroplasticity and Neuro-Linguistic Programming along with many other disciplines.
Let me give you a couple of examples: the programme will allow you to make a number of simple cognitive changes in your thought processes…small changes that deliver ‘massive results’. For example, think for a moment how different your relationship with food and weight loss would be if we re-programmed your subconscious mind to effortlessly replace the word “want” with the word “need”? The result, imagine you are out having dinner with friends, and after ordering a burger, instead of hearing the waiter asking: “Do you ‘want‘ fries with that?” without thinking, you hear and automatically process the question as: “Do you ‘need‘ fries with that?” Things would be very different, right? You see, at a cognitive level, we process those words differently.
Later, maybe the waiter says, do you ‘want’ another glass of wine? You, of course, hear and cognitively process the word stream as do you ‘need‘ another glass of wine. You can watch an animated video explaining ‘Want and Need’ and how it works at the bottom of this page. One component of our
Another ‘fix’ in the programme relates to just why people eat. So, during the programme, you will be asked when was the last time you ate in response to real, physical hunger. Most people say: “Thinking about it, I haven’t been physically hungry for years”. And so we ask them: “Do you ever eat when you are bored, stressed, tired, lonely, depressed, sad, to reward yourself, when watching TV, or maybe just to please someone else?” Then, we do another reset, and so it goes on…
It’s often true that people completing a traditional diet or even undertaking weight loss surgery, whilst leaving their psychological issues un-rectified will suffer from problems around having an unhealthy relationship with food for the rest of their lives. That, of course, is the main reason for the dreaded ‘Regain’ or ‘Weight Creep’ that many people suffer with following virtually all surgical weight loss procedures.
The MWL approach was designed to identify the issues and then almost undertake a ‘reset’ of a person’s thinking. Resulting in them eating and enjoying food when they are hungry and then just stopping when they are satisfied, regardless of whether their plate is empty or not.
