‘The Award Winning Solution‘
SlimFast or Surgery
Your Choice – SlimFast or Surgery
SlimFast or Surgery. So you’re considering either starting a diet, or maybe going ‘under the knife’, and having weight-loss surgery. These are big and important decisions. In some circumstances, they could have lifelong effects, not just on you, but also on your friends and close family. So, if you are looking for a ‘quick fix’ weight loss solution, be aware that they often come with several long term health implications…
But first who are we?
So, who are we? And, what do we know? Well, we are Martin and Marion Shirran. We were the developers of the Gastric Mind Band Permanent Weight Loss Treatment. We are also the authors of the two bestselling books around the subject of non-surgical weight loss, both published by Hay House in New York. And, additionally, we have in excess of 15,000 hours of 1:1 clinical experience treating clients wishing to lose weight. Many people regard us as specialists in our field. So please allow us to share with you what we know, then at the bottom of this page we will introduce you to an Award Winning alternative that you can try today.
So SlimFast First – a Quick Fix Weight Loss Option?
In reality, SlimFast is not a diet, it’s a process. It’s not a quick fix that can be done in a week. According their product information, in order to see optimum results from SlimFast, you should commit to at least 3 months of following the plan, and of course buying their products! From there, if you stick with it, you should see regular weight loss results. However, any weight you lose may return after you revert to normal eating, see below. Slimfast or surgery… maybe.
If you decide to give Slimfast a go, you will need to stock up on their products, you should budget for an investment of around £100 per month. This will cover the required supply of, Slimfast drinks, bars and their shakes. You can gain support from their website or the regular blog postings. Additionally they have a free app you can download as well as an active Facebook community. Slimfast actively encourages daily exercise the adopting of a zero or minimal consumption of alcohol.
Slimfast, like a number of other meal replacement diets can work for some people manly because it takes away the option, the risk of over indulging. It is convenient, just ‘pop’ the lid of one of their drinks, and your done. On the negative side, some people find living on the shakes and bars to be repetitive and boring. One other factor to be aware of is that Slimfast contains two sugar substitutes: sucralose and acesulfame potassium. Whilst most people have no problem tolerating these sweeteners, some may experience diarrhea, gas and bloating, according to Columbia Health.
SlimFast or Surgery
If you want to lose weight in a healthy and safe way, with a chance of it being permanent, then SlimFast is probably not the diet for you. It has been stated that the amount of sugar and salt in their diet shakes is the factor that helps them to suppress hunger. This, of course, can, in extreme cases lead to health problems, such as elevated blood pressure. To make matters worse, a study published by Harvard Medical School, found that about 80% of people who lose weight with SlimFast or similar products gain all, or most of it, back within a year. However, to be honest, that is also true of just about every other meal replacement diet product you can buy off the shelf.
Weight Loss Surgery
Weight Loss Surgery, known as Bariatric Surgery, comes with a number of options; the better known ones are Gastric Band, Gastric Sleeve, or Gastric Bypass Surgery. The last two are non-reversible. Bariatric surgery has become a highly effective tool for addressing obesity. The benefits of weight loss surgery are vast, but for many the negative issues often outweigh all of them. There are many things that need to be considered before opting for a surgical procedure. Many of the negative effects experienced following surgery are, maybe surprisingly, of a psychological nature. They can have dramatically life altering effects on your health and personal life. Please take a look at our “Cheapest Bariatric Surgery” page.
SlimFast or Surgery – Quick Fix Weight Loss…?
Many people believe that weight loss surgery provides a fast, guaranteed, and permanent result. But in reality, of course, this is seldom the case. Anyone considering surgery should first undertake considerable research. Many people are aware that any surgical procedure that involves a General Anaesthetic comes with a risk of complications, or mortality (death). That risk is an accepted medical fact. However of course, if the person undergoing the surgery is obese, (as hopefully all patients undertaking Bariatric Surgery are), then the risk is even higher. SlimFast or Surgery
In the UK the NHS are under considerable financial pressure in all areas, so non essential surgery, such as weight loss, is experiencing a considerable waiting time, it could be two years. On this website we have a number of blog pages relating to the issues of having your surgery abroad. Private weight loss surgery can be as little as £4,000 for a Gastric Band, up to £15,000 for a gastric sleeve. I asked a surgeon friend if they would undergo bariatric surgery. The answer was really what I expected, he said, “all surgery involving a General Anaesthetic comes with a risk of death, no I would not put myself or a member of my family in that position”
Overweight People feel Unhealthy
When people gain weight, they tend to slowly start feeling unhealthy. Owing to their level of obesity, they may start to experience certain aches and pains and levels of tiredness that their slim friends don’t. These may include heart and blood pressure problems, high cholesterol levels or diabetes. It is accepted that all of these conditions result in decreased life expectancy. Often overweight individuals may also feel socially ostracised from their friends, they will always have low self esteem, and reduced self confidence. On average overweight people, will need to visit their doctor, or receive a hospital referral, nearly twice as often as a person of normal, healthy weight.
Things are different when overweight
People who are overweight experience many things in life differently, often they are not aware of the small changes that take place. As an example, they may start to book a different type of holiday, one that requires less physical effort. They often lose interest in fashion and purchasing clothes. Those married to, or in a relationship with, an overweight partner, often report a reduced level of intimacy. SlimFast or Surgery.
Health Improves When You Lose Weight
Weight loss often produces a positive health effect and an elevated level of positivity. As people lose weight, they often very quickly feel better, both physically and mentally. This feeling is often referred to as the “health benefits of weight loss.” When losing weight, a person’s overall positive outlook on life is ‘piqued’. People who have lost weight often remark on the fact that the future looks brighter, and things no longer ‘get them down’ like they used to. They find they can more easily take things in their stride, with little effort.
Weight Loss Needs Time.
Losing weight clearly demonstrates to yourself, and those around you, that you care, and want to improve your health. Whilst losing weight has a positive effect on a person’s health, it can also be beneficial in other ways. As an example, it’s well known that as someone loses weight they experience an elevated level of self-confidence and self-esteem. This in turn delivers a higher functioning of the immune system. A side effect of this which is seldom mentioned is that as someones self esteem, self confidence increases, so to does their determination, to ‘Stay That Way’.

Losing Weight Lifts a Person’s Mood.
Weight loss can often be hard work; feeling like an uphill struggle. But when you do start to lose weight, you will benefit from the positive uplifting effects it delivers. Many changes are physical, that can be measured and observed. Including the weight loss you can see on the scales, the lowered blood pressure, and the increased energy levels. Others are more psychological, changes, such as an increase in the overall feeling of positivity. Dieters become aware of a growing level of self-confidence, along with a rapid improvement in your quality of sleep.
Ensure You Stay Motivated.
So how do you ensure you stay motivated in order to maintain your weight loss journey? When you’re trying to lose weight, it can be difficult to keep yourself motivated over an extended period of time. It’s vital that you maintain a positive outlook; that you constantly visualise a time in the near future when you will be at your target weight. In psychology we call that ‘Going There First’. It is about clearly seeing the end, before you begin. In our treatment we incorporate Clinical Hypnotherapy, to help a person to permanently ‘Imprint the Positive Outcome’.

You Need Short Term Goals
Setting short-term, achievable goals, with small, built-in rewards, often helps. Maybe going out clothes shopping and treating yourself to a little reward. Book a few days break somewhere, something to look forward to. Remember that it is scientifically proven that nothing improves motivation like a good night’s sleep. If possible, start to mix with slim friends, start to live like a slim person, because they really do live their lives differently. Read our page, The Skinny Switch to read more. SlimFast or Surgery

Below is a selection of weight-loss tips that everyone can start using straight away. And, if you enroll in the My Weigh Less Course, you will learn many more of our helpful tips and techniques about how to achieve successful, permanent weight loss.
Tip No. 1 – Only Eat When You’re Hungry!
This has to be our number one, golden rule, when it comes to achieving successful weight loss. In our experience, most overweight people eat for many different reasons, other than physical hunger. But, if you allow your emotions to control your eating habits, then it is unlikely that you will be able to control your weight as a result. So, before you reach for anything to eat, stop and ask yourself first if you physically NEED to eat, or you just WANT to…
You’ve probably heard this many times before, but it’s a fact that people who use larger plates tend to eat more food than those who eat from smaller plates. Remember the famous Delboeuf optical illusion, because a small portion of food looks more generous when served on a smaller size plate. If you stick to our mantra, “always go for quality over quantity”, then you will definitely lose weight much more easily.
Research results, published by Harvard Medical showed that people who drank two large glasses of water, just before eating, consumed, on average, around 20% less food than previously. This is possibly as a result of the stretching and fullness sensation in the stomach.
so it is officially accepted now that faster eaters are definitely more likely to become overweight. Studies have also shown that people are much more likely to eat more when their eating is mindless, as opposed to mindful. So, make meal times an occasion by sitting down at a table, with no distractions. Then eat slowly and savour every mouthful. You will naturally eat less food and also find it easier to lose weight as a result!
So much so, that many people find that once they start eating these foods, they literally can’t stop. And, of course, if you’re making such poor food choices, this in turn will make it almost impossible for you to lose weight. So, our advice is to choose healthy, unprocessed foods and limit the amount of sugar you consume. As a result, you will have far more control over how much you eat and also how much weight you can lose.
You may not be aware of how important this tip is, but the order in which you eat your food can actually have a big impact on how much you consume! It’s quite common for overweight people to “save the best til last” when eating. In other words they only eat their favourite food right at the end. It’s not so surprising then, that they also tend to eat everything on their plate, regardless of how uncomfortably full they feel. Because, of course, they don’t want to miss out on the “best bit”!
However, our advice is to eat your favourite things first. Not only will you enjoy it more, but it’s also much easier to stop when you’ve eaten just the right amount and leave the rest on the plate.
