The strictest level of low-carb eating, with a maximum daily limit of 20g, is, of course, a ketogenic diet. However, you can still lose weight following a more moderate low-carb regime.

Let’s put that into perspective. For instance, white bread is 50% carbohydrate, and around 75% of the total calories in it come from carbs! Therefore, if one single slice of bread weighs, say, 50g, it contains around 25 grams of carbs. Not that you will be eating any bread, of course! And in comparison, a couple of eggs will provide a perfect source of protein and just 1 gram of carbs. So, if you really want to lose 14 pounds in a month, scramble some eggs, but hold the toast!

Not Low Carb, Think Zero Carb

So what could a low-carb-friendly day entail? Firstly, breakfast. As mentioned above, a perfect choice is eggs in any shape or form, whether scrambled, poached, boiled, fried, or made into an omelette. Don’t forget to include some fat in there, too, for added flavour and satiety: olive oil, butter, or cheese are all great! Also, because the body takes longer to process protein than carbs, you also burn more calories eating eggs compared with eating bread!

Secondly, lunch. How about a salad with tuna and avocado taking centre stage? And a grand total of just 7g of carbs. Many dieters are completely sceptical and afraid about eating avocados when trying to lose weight. But quite the reverse is true. And finally, dinner. If you fancy something really tasty and satisfying, how about a yummy Thai green curry? This recipe is quick and easy, and the whole dish is just 13g of carbs.
