If you are anything like the majority of people, you spend at least some of your spare time scrolling through pages on the Internet, researching topics that impact on your health and life in general. Adults, it seems, are developing an increased level of interest in their health, quality of life and general wellbeing. In particular, they are keen to learn and understand the aspects and interventions that they can introduce themselves, without any medical intervention.

Weight Loss always equates to wellness; it is almost as if the two conditions are somehow connected. However, it is a surprising fact that wellness is often not the main reason, the driver, for a person to start out on their weight-loss journey.

Of course, taking control of their weight, and their general diet are at the top of the self-help list. The effects of being overweight on a person’s health are almost too numerous to mention. As an example, last year, type 2 diabetes, which is a key indicator of obesity, killed in excess of 1.5 million people. Research suggests that as many as 175 million adults worldwide are walking around not knowing that they even have diabetes! But diabetes is sadly just one example.

One obvious connection between weight loss and wellness that can be observed when a person reaches their target weight is the profound psychological changes that occur. We have been privileged to see and experience this with clients, on multiple occasions. People become more outgoing; they have an abundance of excess energy. Their level of self-esteem and self-confidence is literally through the roof. You can observe how the previous overweight person, who was an introvert, sad and lacking in confidence, changes almost overnight. Their persona transforms them to a level where they almost light up a room, whereas before, they were maybe invisible.

Early Detection Saved My Life

Julie had suffered with being overweight since giving birth to her daughters. She was just about to commit to having weight-loss surgery, a Gastric Band, when at the last minute her husband convinced her to re-consider and try something less drastic. So, one month later, Julie arrived at our clinic to go through our Gastric Mind Band therapy. Following her treatment with us she went on to lose 60 pounds, and, for the first time in many years, she was at her target weight. She told us that life had never been better. It was Like a Small Pea

One morning, when she was drying herself following her shower, she noticed a very small ‘pea’ size lump in her breast. Initially, as it was so small, she was not too concerned. A couple of weeks later, she showed it to her doctor, who immediately referred her to a breast clinic, where she had a mammogram, followed by a biopsy, which confirmed that it was in fact cancerous. Shortly afterwards, it was surgically removed. And thankfully, because she had discovered the lump so quickly, the cancer was still in the very early stages and had not spread. Her doctor subsequently told her that if she had not lost the weight, reducing the amount of fatty tissues around her breasts, the small lump would probably have remained undetected, with potentially life-threatening results.

Diabetic for 10 Years

Kay Lindley was 59 years of age when she began her treatment. She was a year away from retiring from her position as headteacher in a primary school, and she had great plans to travel the world and make the most of her retirement. However, because of her weight, she had been a type 2 diabetic for 10 years. And, on top of that, she was also suffering with severe arthritis, resulting in ever worsening mobility issues. Her starting weight was 22 1/2 stone, or 315 pounds. So, she decided enough was enough, and came to our clinic to experience our weight-loss treatment. Kay’s photo below…

After 25 weeks, Kay had lost an incredible 70 pounds. Following a visit to her diabetes nurse, her levels of medication were slashed by 50%! But that was just the beginning; Kay went on to lose a whopping 105 pounds. She reversed the decade of diabetes issues; the arthritis went into remission, and she was invited to appear on national TV in the UK. It was a classic example of ‘Weight Loss delivering Wellness’. Alan Had Fatty Liver Disease

Alan had been overweight for over 30 years. He was diagnosed with fatty liver disease by his consultant at Kingston Hospital in London. Additionally, he was borderline diabetic, and had extremely high blood pressure with very elevated cholesterol levels. His consultant is on record as saying “Alan if you don’t do something with your weight very quickly, you will die from a heart attack, or suffer a stroke”. That was in late 2020.

Alan contacted us during 2021. And, after following the programme he went on to lose 75 pounds of excess weight. Recently he returned to Kingston Hospital to see his consultant. He was naturally concerned about the fatty liver disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated levels of cholesterol.

Everything Reversed Itself

Blood spectrum tests that were taken during the visit indicated, to his consultant’s surprise, normal levels in all departments. Everything has reversed itself and returned to medically acceptable levels again. Alan has now had four full spectrum blood tests this year. Each test has confirmed that everything is now at completely normal levels.

Jackie Lost 70 pounds

When we met Jackie, she had been diagnosed with arrhythmia and a hiatus hernia. During the previous few years she was diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Resistance and, more recently, Fatty Liver Disease. She was also having regular appointments with an endocrinologist. As a result, she was prescribed various different medications for each condition. Jackie has lost just over 70 pounds and is continuing to lose weight. However, since her dramatic weight loss, and to her doctor’s amazement, she no longer has Fatty Liver Disease. Additionally, after three years, she is finally off the metformin. She has now been discharged by the cardiologist, and has amazed her doctors and specialists.

Another component that continues to receive considerable media interest revolves around ‘Want and Need’. It has proved to be pivotal in the programme. Basically we use proven interventions, based around Neuroplasticity, to enable a client to cognitively remove the word ‘Want’ from their mind, and replace it with the word ‘Need’. Let us give you an example. You are in a restaurant with friends, and when taking your order, the waiter says: “Do you WANT fries with that?” Following the treatment, the client would hear: “Do you NEED fries with that?” And similarly, “Do you WANT a second glass of wine?”, would be heard as “Do you NEED a second glass of wine?”

Tip No. 1 – Only Eat When You’re Hungry!

This has to be our number one, golden rule, when it comes to achieving successful weight loss. In our experience, most overweight people eat for many different reasons, other than physical hunger. But, if you allow your emotions to control your eating habits, then it is unlikely that you will be able to control your weight as a result. So, before you reach for anything to eat, stop and ask yourself first if you physically NEED to eat, or you just WANT to… You can watch a short animated video explaining Want and Need at the bottom of this page.

Tip No. 2 – Use a Smaller Plate!

You’ve probably heard this many times before, but it’s a fact that people who use larger plates tend to eat more food than those who eat from smaller plates. No doubt you know about the power of optical illusions. But are you aware of just how much more generous the same size portion of food appears, when presented on a smaller plate, instead of a larger one? Have a look at the image below. It’s known as the Delboeuf optical illusion. If you stick to our mantra, “always go for quality over quantity”, then you will definitely lose weight much more easily.

Tip No. 3 – Drink a Glass or Two of Water Before Your Meal!

Reduce Your Calorie Intake by over 20%, with almost with no effort! Research results, published by Harvard Medical showed that people who drank two large glasses of water, just before eating, consumed, on average, around 20% less food than previously. This is possibly as a result of the stretching and fullness sensation in the stomach.

Tip No. 4 – Eat Slowly and Mindfully!

A growing number of studies have consistently found a correlation between speed of eating and weight, so it is officially accepted now that faster eaters are definitely more likely to become overweight. Studies have also shown that people are much more likely to eat more when their eating is mindless, as opposed to mindful. So, make meal times an occasion by sitting down at a table, with no distractions. Then eat slowly and savour every mouthful. You will naturally eat less food and also find it easier to lose weight as a result!

Tip No. 5 – Stay Away From Sugar and Highly Processed Foods!

It’s a fact that sugar and highly processed foods have addictive properties! So much so, that many people find that once they start eating these foods, they literally can’t stop. And, of course, if you’re making such poor food choices, this in turn will make it almost impossible for you to lose weight. So, our advice is to choose healthy, unprocessed foods and limit the amount of sugar you consume. As a result, you will have far more control over how much you eat and also how much weight you can lose.

Tip No. 6 – Eat Your Favourite Foods on the Plate First!

You may not be aware of how important this tip is, but the order in which you eat your food can actually have a big impact on how much you consume! It’s quite common for overweight people to “save the best til last” when eating. In other words they only eat their favourite food right at the end. It’s not so surprising then, that they also tend to eat everything on their plate, regardless of how uncomfortably full they feel. Because, of course, they don’t want to miss out on the “best bit”!

However, our advice is to eat your favourite things first. Not only will you enjoy it more, but it’s also much easier to stop when you’ve eaten just the right amount and leave the rest on the plate.
