Easy Weight Loss. OK, let me be honest and upfront with you. Weight loss is never going to be easy. Especially if you’re a novice and not 100 per cent sure of exactly what you’re doing. If no one has shared with you the proven techniques and approaches that the professionals use, then it may well be a long, hard slog. And, at times, it may also be a little depressing. There are no magic shortcuts. However, when you arrive, as you will, at your target weight, I can tell you from first-hand experience, the feelings and the emotions that you will experience may well be life-changing. The photo above was my start point.

As most seasoned dieters already know, losing weight is not a ‘walk in the park’. If it were, the world would be a slimmer, healthier, and a far happier place. But having the right inside knowledge, and with a few tricks up your sleeve, you can arrive at your target weight without losing your mind. The photo below was taken on holiday after reaching my target weight.

On this page, I am going to share with you a few proven techniques to help you. But first, I need you to have a little faith in me. If I were you, right now, I guess I would be thinking: what does he know? Why waste my time reading this page? And I completely understand. If I were in your shoes right now, I would be thinking exactly the same. So, let me just take two minutes to try and overcome those thoughts. Firstly the two photos above were my start point, below is a photo taken for the Daily Mail Newspaper when I reached my target weight.

I suffered with obesity for fifty years, and then I was enrolled as the number two trial candidate in this programme. over the following ten months I went on to lose 84 pounds and reached my target weight. However I was not the biggest loser. Sarah Hart went on to lose over 140 pounds, or half her body weight. Her photo is below. She has appeared on TV around the world to talk about the treatment.

Since then, along with Marion, I have amassed 15,000 1:1 clinical treatment hours, working with obese and overweight clients. This has resulted in us being classed as specialists in our field. We have been invited to various universities to share details of our unique weight loss treatment. And, as you can read on other pages of this website, we have appeared on TV on both sides of the Atlantic.

Above is a before and after photo of me that appeared in the UK national press. As I said earlier, I lost 85 pounds. But in my mind at least, I never went on a diet. And I never once deprived myself of anything that I wanted to eat. As we progressed out unique approach received media attention around the world. Hello Magazine featured our work.

As I said, I was obese for 50 years, so why was that? I think there were a couple of reasons. Firstly, like you, I live in an ‘obesogenic society’. This makes it hard, some would say almost impossible, to maintain a healthy weight. Just to confirm, an obesogenic society is basically one where there is an unlimited availability of energy-dense food, (which is mostly junk food). But, at the same time, people are almost being encouraged to do as little physical activity as possible.

As an example, no one gets off their backsides to change the TV channel anymore, they simply reach for the remote. It’s a small example, but it is very real. It’s like a ‘perfect storm’ scenario; perfectly emulating the old saying “too much in, not enough out”. It is hard to argue against it. Whilst it is not an excuse, the diet industry also played a part in me being obese. The weight loss industry is, in my opinion at least, totally unique. It is an industry that continues to grow year on year, and the current estimated annual value is an amazing $288 billion! Why do I say unique? Because it grows by millions of dollars every year, and simultaneously, fails just about everyone of its customers every year: it has done since its conception. Of course, until now, no one in the industry has been that keen to ‘Kill the Golden Goose!’ so to speak. But then again, why would they?

The other reason I think I was obese was because I honestly think I was a ‘food addict’. There has been growing interest in the media recently around food addiction. Personally, I think it exists. And its effects are far larger than cocaine as an example. Take a look at the level of mortality from both, and you will note that food addiction (obesity) is thousands of times higher.

In a similar way to cocaine, heroin and other addictive substances, foods that are high in carbohydrates and sugars trigger the release of positive feel-good chemicals in the brain, similar to dopamine. Just like those using drugs, after a person has experienced the highly pleasurable feeling of consuming the energy-dense foods, the brain starts to crave more. So how did I, and many others on this website lose weight, and permanently? I have thought about that a lot over the last few days, whilst writing this page. I believe there were, and are, three key components. And, when you have mastered them, it will make the difference between your success and failure. Marie Claire Featured our weight-loss programme.

I know from experience that a number of readers will disregard my opinion. That, of course, is your right. But, the three components around my approach to weight loss are firmly based not just on my personal experience, but on over 15,000 1:1 clinical treatment hours, working with overweight clients.

Here we go, in no particular order. Motivation, maybe not in the way you think. I am talking about how important it is for you, your life and maybe your family, that you arrive at your target weight. You see, as an example, if your target weight loss is 40 pounds, then there is no medical, or scientific, reason why you cannot be 40 pounds lighter, in around 20 weeks from today. It is a fact you may like to argue against, but in a court of law as an example, you would lose, every single time.

You can choose today to start on your 20 week journey to a 40 pound weight loss, or you can go out with friends tonight and enjoy a burger and fries. The choice is completely yours, sadly you cannot of course have both. And I guess that is why I describe it as motivation. It is down to whatever you are motivated to achieve. The pleasant experience of the burger and fries, of course, will last for around seven minutes after you have finished. In contrast, the pleasure of going on a beach holiday this summer may last a lifetime.

PBT, our upgraded version of the traditional Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, is invaluable as an aid to helping you to stop and think about the consequences of the action you are about to take. It allows you to ‘freeze time’, to take a moment ‘out’ and really consider where you want this to go. Everything in our lives is going at record speed; we seldom take a few seconds to think through our planned actions.

Forgetting about food for a moment, how many people have sent a text, in a heartbeat without thinking, and then regretted it? PBT, as an example, will allow you to just stop, and ask the question: Do I really need this burger, or do I just want it? Then you make your choice, and move on.

Eat in Moderation

Whilst I was on my weight-loss journey, to ensure it was 100 per cent sustainable, I choose to eat, whatever I wanted, and whenever I wanted it. There were zero restrictions, except that the quantities were in moderation. I was eating for taste, quality and pleasure, never to feel stuffed. Nothing was off limits, but the portions were controlled. Of course, it is fair to say, that when looking at a menu in a restaurant, I would take a few private seconds to think through where I wanted to be tomorrow. Reaching your Mental Target Weight

Bringing everything together, I invested a few minutes every day, picturing myself at my target weight. I forced myself to really imagine and feel the increased confidence and energy. I used Pause Button Therapy to buy myself a few minutes to consider the consequences of what I was about to do. So, regardless of whether we were eating in, or going out to a restaurant with friends, I ordered whatever took my fancy, but my portions were reduced. Alison, below, lost over 80 pounds.

I can guarantee that after a while, I am sure my stomach shrank, because I became fuller, on much less food. The key to successful weight loss is to never deprive yourself of what you desire. There is a belief in psychology, that the word Diet equals Deprivation and as we know Deprivation always equals an elevated level of Desire. Sure you can deprive yourself for a while, but eventually, when your guard is down, you will fail. The photo below was taken recently, the 85 pounds weight loss remains.

The Takeaway

One of the problems that people experience when trying to lose weight is that, as a species we generally seek immediate gratification- meaning if there was a burger and fries in front of us right now. You can see it, you can smell it, you want it, and now, that is pretty normal. The intense desire for instant gratification is one of the main reasons that so many people struggle with their weight. The opposite side of the coin the delayed gratification element, where you have to wait 20 weeks until you have achieved the desired 40 pound weight loss, is somehow almost out of view, it has disappeared beyond the horizon.

Tip No. 2 – Use a Smaller Plate!

You’ve probably heard this many times before, but it’s a fact that people who use larger plates tend to eat more food than those who eat from smaller plates. Remember the famous Delboeuf optical illusion, because a small portion of food looks more generous when served on a smaller size plate. If you stick to our mantra, “always go for quality over quantity”, then you will definitely lose weight much more easily.

Tip No. 3 – Drink a Glass or Two of Water Before Your Meal!

Reduce Your Calorie Intake by over 20%, with almost with no effort! Research results, published by Harvard Medical showed that people who drank two large glasses of water, just before eating, consumed, on average, around 20% less food than previously. This is possibly as a result of the stretching and fullness sensation in the stomach.

Tip No. 4 – Eat Slowly and Mindfully!

A growing number of studies have consistently found a correlation between speed of eating and weight, so it is officially accepted now that faster eaters are definitely more likely to become overweight. Studies have also shown that people are much more likely to eat more when their eating is mindless, as opposed to mindful. So, make meal times an occasion by sitting down at a table, with no distractions. Then eat slowly and savour every mouthful. You will naturally eat less food and also find it easier to lose weight as a result!

Tip No. 5 – Stay Away From Sugar and Highly Processed Foods!

It’s a fact that sugar and highly processed foods have addictive properties! So much so, that many people find that once they start eating these foods, they literally can’t stop. And, of course, if you’re making such poor food choices, this in turn will make it almost impossible for you to lose weight. So, our advice is to choose healthy, unprocessed foods and limit the amount of sugar you consume. As a result, you will have far more control over how much you eat and also how much weight you can lose.

Tip No. 6 – Eat Your Favourite Foods on the Plate First!

You may not be aware of how important this tip is, but the order in which you eat your food can actually have a big impact on how much you consume! It’s quite common for overweight people to “save the best til last” when eating. In other words they only eat their favourite food right at the end. It’s not so surprising then, that they also tend to eat everything on their plate, regardless of how uncomfortably full they feel. Because, of course, they don’t want to miss out on the “best bit”!

However, our advice is to eat your favourite things first. Not only will you enjoy it more, but it’s also much easier to stop when you’ve eaten just the right amount and leave the rest on the plate.
