Nurse Loses 65 Pounds With NLP
55 Year Old Nurse Ballooned to 230 pounds
Nurse Loses 65 Pounds With NLP. 55-year-old nurse Reija, who ballooned to almost 16 and a half stone by gorging on FIVE meals a day, has shed eight dress sizes after her therapy with Marion and Martin Shirran. Mother-of-one Reija was previously a size 28 and tipped the scales at 16st 4lb. Now she is a trim size 12 and weighs 11st 5lbs. She is just 15 pounds off her goal weight of 10st 4lb.
Reija, who lives in Spain, had previously visited the British-run Elite Clinic in southern Spain to see Martin Shirran for help quitting smoking, which she did successfully after two sessions of hypnosis. Impressed by how well the technique had worked, she signed up for their weight-loss therapy, which involved CBT, Hypnosis and NLP in a bid to slim down.
She steadily put on weight throughout her childhood due to her love of sweets and chocolate, but her size became a real problem in later years when she began to comfort-eat pizza, etc, after developing rheumatoid arthritis. “I was just eating and eating all the time. Whenever I was hungry or I thought I was, I ate something unhealthy,” she told the Daily Mail.
Depression resulted…
“I was unhappy with my weight, and when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2012, I became very depressed and didn’t go out. I just stayed in my house because I couldn’t bear to go out and have strangers looking at me. Also, I didn’t feel like meeting friends, and I was just so tired all the time.” You may also like to read our blog post “Can Stress Slow Down my Weight Loss?“
“When I was younger, I didn’t really take much notice of my weight, but I knew I was bigger than the other kids. As a child, I was chubby. I was always eating lots of chocolate, sweets and general junk food. I felt massively insecure. Thinking back, my parents were always very busy and just never had much time to do things with me. So I just did what I wanted and ate what I wanted, when I wanted.” Nurse Loses 65 Pounds With NLP.
“I didn’t have the slightest idea of how much I weighed, and I think maybe I was scared of getting on the scales. But I knew that I was obviously very overweight. I never cared about it really because I thought that looks were not important to me. Like most people, when I was young, I never thought about my health and the damage I was doing to my body. Young people don’t think about their health.’”

Reija tried a number of different diets but struggled to stick to them because she found them restrictive, boring and time-consuming, especially having to weigh out and measure all her portions. She shared her photo shoot with Ruby, whose story you can read in the success section below. They are both photographed above with Marion Shirran.
“Now I feel amazing! The first time I saw my daughter after the therapy, she didn’t recognise me. It was amazing. I went to the airport to meet her, and she walked straight past me. Now I feel different, I feel alive.” Originally from Kotka, Finland, but now living in Fuengirola, Spain, Reija began working as a registered nurse after she left school. I loved my job, but when I finished the working day, I returned home and developed the habit of enjoying too many heavy meals. This was always followed by indulging in too many unhealthy snacks. I never realised how big I had become, and I was totally unaware that my weight had grown to over 14.5 stones. The arthritis began to affect my mobility, and my mental health was also suffering. Eventually, I decided to change jobs and move to southern Spain. I hoped the warmer weather would reduce the pain caused by my rheumatoid arthritis.
She landed a job working as an occupational nurse and settled into enjoying the laid-back lifestyle and delicious local cuisine. “For breakfast, I was having bread with ham, cheese and tomatoes. During the day, I would often eat my way through countless snacks, chips or nachos. For lunch, I would have lasagna or cannelloni. For dinner, I would go out and buy more of the same. Because I lived alone and was bored, it wasn’t unusual for me to eat five meals a day.”

But despite her weight, smoking was the first vice she opted to try to ditch. After signing up for the Stop Smoking treatment with Martin, Reija gave up smoking following just two sessions. But as she was leaving the clinic, she spotted photos of patients who had undergone the alternative NLP/Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based permanent weight-loss treatment. She thought as it had worked so well to stop smoking, she was confident it would work to help her lose weight. Visit the Does It Work? page.
The course began with Reija and British co-founder Marion, a clinical therapist, running through the clinic’s Forensic Weight Loss Questionnaire covering childhood, background and past relationships with food to identify Rieja’s triggers. She was also introduced to the clinic’s own registered version of CBT, which is called TCBT or Pause Button Therapy. The behavioural therapy was to help Reija change her habits around food. Below is a photo of Reija with Marion Shirran and another client, Ruby, at the local studio.
The vast majority of our clients arrive at our door because they want change in their lives. They want to feel better about the way they look and generally feel. They want and deserve to take control. For many, it is the start of a life-changing journey; by changing your relationship with food at a psychological level, the changes are fast, and maybe more importantly, they are permanent.
Let us Help, Guide and Inspire You…
Of course, everyone is different and has different reasons for wanting to take control of their weight. We hope you will allow us to help, guide and inspire you. Our youngest client was just 14 years of age, our oldest was 86. Some clients tell us they just want to drop 10 pounds so they look that little bit better in their wedding dress, whereas others, like past client Sarah Hart, who is featured on the Success Stories Page, wanted and went on to lose an incredible 140 pounds.
The Psychology-based weight-loss treatment is focused around NLP and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. CBT, the most researched and respected therapy in the world, is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It’s most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems. Our treatment was featured in Vogue Magazine. Nurse Loses 65 Pounds With NLP
NLP is incorporated into the therapy mix on an ‘As Required Basis’. It was an element that Reija found particularly powerful. NLP can be a primary method of creating change for those wishing to lose weight and has gradually been incorporated into the ‘core’ therapy, the one around which all the others are woven and underpinned during Martin and Marion’s treatment. Ruby and Reija
Reija said: “This has changed my life more than I would have thought possible. It has made me stop before I eat anything; also, for the first time, I now think about the consequences of my actions. So far, I have lost more than 65 pounds. My target is to get my weight down to 65kg. My energy level was 40 per cent, now it is always at 100 per cent. “Their therapy is the best thing I have ever done: it has truly been life-changing!”
“Now I eat twice a day. No breakfast. I eat at around 10 or 11 am. I find that I am almost automatically choosing lighter, more healthy food. My meal in the evening is at around 7 pm. I often have fish or chicken with salad or vegetables. The thing that has surprised me the most is how quick the weight loss has been, and to be truthful, it has been almost effortless. Martin and Marion’s dedication to ensuring client satisfaction is incredible.
Reija benefited from the NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) element of her treatment. The approach helps almost to rewire a person’s thought patterns and behaviours surrounding food. NLP helped her as it has others to identify and modify the negative associations and triggers related to unhealthy eating habits. Through NLP techniques, Reija gained the tools to break free from her comfort eating patterns and make healthier choices. It allowed her to develop a more positive relationship with food and ultimately contributed to her significant weight loss. NLP empowered Reija to transform her mindset, enabling her to achieve her weight loss goals and enjoy a healthier, happier life.
Answer: Utilizing a Multifaceted Approach for Weight Loss: Reija’s remarkable weight loss journey was made possible through a comprehensive, multifaceted therapy approach offered by Marion and Martin Shirran. This approach incorporated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Hypnosis, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques, each contributing to her success in distinct ways.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT was a fundamental component of Reija’s treatment. It involved addressing her thought patterns and behaviours related to food. With CBT, she learned to recognize and challenge negative thought patterns that led to unhealthy eating habits. This therapy helped her replace these patterns with healthier alternatives, fostering better decision-making regarding food choices, portion control, and emotional eating.
Answer: Identifying Negative Associations: Reija steadily gained weight due to her love for sweets and chocolates during her childhood. Later, she resorted to comfort eating, especially after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which further exacerbated her weight issues.
Answer: Reija’s weight gain made her unhappy and depressed, leading to social withdrawal. She struggled with mobility due to arthritis and felt constantly tired, affecting her overall well-being.
Answer: Reija opted for the therapy after successfully quitting smoking with the help of Martin Shirran’s hypnosis. Encouraged by this, she believed the same therapy could assist her in losing weight. Creating a Positive Relationship with Food: Through NLP techniques, Reija developed a more positive relationship with food. She no longer saw it as a source of comfort or a means to escape emotional distress. Instead, NLP allowed her to view food as nourishment for her body, promoting better choices and portion control.
Answer: Reija’s weight-loss therapy involved a combination of CBT, Hypnosis, and NLP. The clinic used a Forensic Weight Loss Questionnaire to identify her triggers and introduced registered CBT techniques called TCBT or Pause Button Therapy.
Answer: Yes, this therapy has been effective for a wide range of clients, regardless of age or background. It’s a personalized approach to changing one’s relationship with food, making the changes fast and, importantly, permanent.
Conclusion Reija’s journey from a size 28 to a size 12 with a 65-pound weight loss exemplifies the power of NLP and behavioural therapy in transforming one’s relationship with food. Her story highlights the complex interplay between emotional well-being, unhealthy eating habits, and physical health and how a tailored approach can bring lasting change. Reija’s success is a testament to the effectiveness of the therapy offered by Marion and Martin Shirran, demonstrating that it’s never too late to embark on a life-changing journey towards better health and a more positive self-image. Their approach is flexible, catering to clients of all ages and backgrounds, making it a viable solution for those seeking lasting change in their lives.
